Graphic Saturday! 2013 Superman Sampler

Superman is an iconic character, protagonist of plenty of series since its first appearance in 1938. If you haven't read anything about this hero, I have this recommendations for you to check. I received this sampler thanks to DC Comics via Netgalley for review purposes.

 *Covers and synopsis from goodreads*

Superman: For Tomorrow

The complete 12-part saga from SUPERMAN #204-215 written by Brian Azzarello with sensational art by Jim Lee!
A cataclysmic event has struck the Earth. Millions of people have vanished without a trace. No one is left unaffected; not even Superman! But after a year, Superman is left with many questions. For a hero who tries to have all the answers, it's torture. And, just as the action heats up and the stakes are raised, one huge question emerges: Just how far is Superman willing to go "For Tomorrow?"

Superman: Earth One

J. Michael Straczynski, the creator of Babylon 5, joins forces with rising star artist Shane Davis (SUPERMAN/BATMAN: THE SEARCH FOR KRYPTONITE) to create this original graphic novel that gives new insight into Clark Kent’s transformation into Superman and his first year as The Man of Steel. This is the first in a new wave of original DC Universe graphic novels, featuring top writers’ and illustrators’ unique takes on DC characters

Superman: Last Son of Krypton
Writers: Richard Donner and Geoff Johns
Artist Adam Kubert and Gary Frank

Richard Donner and Geoff Johns present "Last Son," collecting the epic story arc with art by Adam Kubert from ACTION COMICS #844-846, #851and Action Comics Annual #11. A rocket lands in Metropolis containing a boy Superman thinks is from Krypton. Along with figuring out what that means to him, Superman must protect young Christopher Kent, who has become the most valuable child on the planet thanks to his immense power. Lex Luthor has his sights on him, assembling his own team of villains to nab Christopher. It all leads to an action-packed finale, as Superman and the new Superman Revenge Squad — Lex Luthor, Bizarro, the Parasite and Metallo — take on General Zod, Ursa and Non in a battle for Metropolis, the future of Krypton and Christopher Kent!

Superman found my life years ago thanks to my hubby.  When we both were students he used to gave me lots of comics to satisfy my voracious reading habits and Superman was one of them.  So, comics and Superman of course, have a special corner in my heart.

I browse the 2013 Superman Sampler and it has great stuff you should check.   It provides a really good compilation of Superman stories.  This sampler shows Superman in different circumstances where the man of steel is not always a strong character, but also someone who can show how vulnerable he is.  The artwrok is well thought and shows how well the artists are attune with the stories they are working with.  The sampler is well organized and it provides a nice scope of what Superman is all about.
