Top Ten Series and/or Books I Recommend To New YA Readers
Top Ten Tuesdays is a weekly meme hosted @ The Broke And The Bookish. This week we can do a list about any topic of our interest(it's freebie week), so I have been thinking about books I would recommend to a new YA reader. This days more and more readers are begin to have interest in YA lit driven by the themes, the characters and all the exposure this genre is having. Monday I posted(for Musing Mondays at Should Be Reading) about reasons people are seen appeal in reading YA. One appeal is the good series and books, and that is why I want to recommend this series and/or books:
1. The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare - This series is great, and never, never boring!
2.Percy Jackson and The Olympians- Real fun
3.The Giver(1994 Newbery Medal), Gathering Blue, The Messenger by Lois Lowry- These are companion books.
4.The Forrest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan - Dead Tossed Waves (2nd book) and The Dark and Hollow Places (3rd book)
5.The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
6. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead - The more recent book is Last Sacrifice (Book # 6)
7.Cathy Vickers Trilogy by Jordan Weisman.
8. Forgotten by Cat Patrick - Not a series but I really like it.
9. The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier
10. Dust by Joan Frances Turner - Frail will be the 2nd book of this series.
Hope you enjoy this list. These are great additions to your TBR list.

Available for Pre-order at Amazon I received this book via Netgalley. I had been drawn to the phrase on it's cover: "They say...
Of the ones I have read (2, 5, 6) I COMPLETELY agree with their placement on this "bests" list. I like the idea of making a list of top recommendations from a favorite genre, and this is my fave, so I'll definitely have to check some of those out! I still need to read Last Sacrifice (Vampire Academy #6) - have you read it? Did you like it?
ReplyDeleteBy "placement" I meant the fact that they are on the list. I would have put Vampire Academy above Hunger Games though... but Percy Jackson's above them both, at least out of the two from that series I read - still working it. Harry Potter would be #1... I'm just going to assume that you assumed everyone's read it so you don't need to recommend it on a list and that you didn't actually forget Harry Potter! :P
DeleteI haven't read Last Sacrifice, but I hope to have time soon.
DeleteI know you will be surprise about this: I haven't read Harry Potter series, but don't be alarmed, I plan to. I was thinking about it some days ago and now you mention it.
